Church Our Lady of Asuncio'n

After the Spanish conquest the evangelizadora action was translated to a large extent of the pre-Hispanic establishments not only actually same of the religion, but also in the construction of remarkable constructions dedicated to the cult. It is so during century XVIII it is constructed to 62 km to the south of Lima, in the town of Chilca, one of the most beautiful examples of architecture barroca of our coast: the Church Our Lady of Asuncio'n de Chilca.

The precise date of construction of his different elements, the Church, the Vestibule, the Cemetery and its Chapel, it could not have been established, although a study of its characteristics suggests were built in successive stages. Nevertheless, we know that for 1774 one first part of the church (from the presbítero to the second section of the ship) already it was finished, so this one and other indications do possible to speculate that the works began in first half of century XVIII and concluded around 1780. Del is a temple of great dimensions as they excel the two high towers, whose interior is of a single extensive and solemn ship, with altars of baroque style done of wood of cedar carved and bathed in gold bread. It emphasizes the baptismal battery constructed in 1789, fused in its totality in gold and silver extracted by the Spaniards of the sparing gorge from near the church.

During the colonial period it was reason for visits of people of Lima, among them, the virrey Amat and during the War of the Pacific it was refuge of patriotic combatants.

Throughout its history, the set has undergone the effects of a series of destructive events (the Chilean invasion, when apparently it was used the towers of the church like small windows, several fires, most well-known, in 1918, damages the towers and mistreats the main altarpiece, etc...) that have caused deteriorations in the different constructions that conform it. Nevertheless, one knows different ocular information of inspection made by technicians from the Historical Monument Department - Artistic of the National Institute of Culture (INC.), of precise interventions made to the church mainly in the structural aspect: most important of these previous interventions to which it occupies to us she was the initiate in 1984.
