HUAROCHIRI PROVINCE


The province of Huarochirí is located in the central part and Eastern of the department of Lima and its 5657.9 territorial extension is of Km2.

Its jurisdiction includes the presence of rivers with regulating volume like the Rímac, Lurín and Santa Eulalia; for that reason its geography is, somehow, divided by the presence of high mountains, like Chilca, that is to 3793 m.s.n.m.

Its territory includes/understands the ecological floors of Yunga, Quechua, Suni, Puna and Janca or Cordillera. The Janca region is on the 48000 m.s.n.m. and, in Huarochirí, the presence of the western mountain range of the $andes in the zone of Ticlio and Pariakaka is unquestionable. There the climate is rigorous, is characterized by the dominion of solid precipitations (hailed, snowed), of the negative temperatures (of up to 25 degrees below cero) and of a very dry atmosphere; nevertheless, it is a paradise for andinistas entrepreneurs and the place where the cóndor is dominated, the greatest bird of the planet.

Huarochirí is conformed by 32 districts: MATUCANA, ANTIOQUIA, CALLAHUANCA, CARAMPOMA, CHICLA, RIVER BASIN, HUACHUPAMPA, HUANZA, HUAROCHIRI, LAHUAYTAMBO, LANGA, LARAOS, MARIATANA, RICARDO PALM, S. ANDRES OF TUPICOCHA, SAN ANTONIO, SAN BARTOLOME, SAN DAMIAN, San Juan DE IRIS, San Juan OF TANTARANCHE, SAN LORENZO OF QUINTI, SAN MATEO, SAN MATEO OF OTAO, SAN PEDRO OF CHASTE, SAN PEDRO OF HUANCAYRE, SANGALLAYA, SANTA CRUZ OF COCACHACRA, SANTA EULALIA, SANTIAGO OF ANCHUCAYA, SANTIAGO OF TUNA, Santo Domingo OF The OLLEROS And FURROW.

MAIN ATTRACTIVE TURISTICOS


MATUCANA

Located in the valley of the Rimac river. Kilometer 75 of the highway Centers (2 hours in car). To an Altitude of 2.389 msnm. The climate is dry and tempering with a temperature average of 27º C in summer and until 19º in winter.

Ideal place for the practice of the long walks, the tourism of adventure and nature. The natural reserves, landscaping resources and archaeological sites of important cultural testimony predominate.

To its arrival the welcome arc will find the bridge red ' Eduardo de Habich'y. The visit to the Church of San Juan is recommended Baptist, built by the jesuitas parents during the years of the colony. Crossing his narrow stone streets, it will be able to appreciate the colonial large houses with beautiful balconies.

During its route, we recommended the visit to the old station, until that the trains arrived from the service Lima - Matucana, and step forced for the trains that come from the Basket bringing mineral. Its origin dates from the beginnings of the industry of the railroads in Peru, 1851.

EULALIA MARCAHUASI And, SANTA SAN PEDRO CHASTE.

80 km to the northeast of the city of Lima crossing the locality of Chosica and taking a deflection towards the left, follows the course of the river Santa Eulalia until arriving at the town of San Pedro de Casta (3 hours of Lima in car approximately), from this 3180 located town to msnm, 3 km are crossed (2 hours to horse or 4 hours on foot).

Santa Eulalia is a small and cosy town in the outskirts of Lima, in km 39 of the Main highway, that will cross in its route towards Marcahuasi. Few kilometers more there, in Chosica, will have to take a deflection and to ascend during four hours, between eucalyptuses and sanpedros, by a way affirmed until San Pedro de Casta, to 3,350 msnm. Give to a stroll by this town of spotted streets and graceful balconies, that an enormous church in its uneven seat has and that marks the beginning of the long walk of approximately three hours until Marcahuasi. If it prefers to climb to back can rent horses, contracting the service in the town, where there is lodging if it wishes to spend the night.

Marcahuasi is a plateau of 4 km2 of extension to more than 4000 msnm where enormous rocks eroded by action of the wind and the water are appraised. Many excel until the 26 meters of height and present/display anthropomorphic and zoomórficas forms. If it wishes to spend the night in the plateau, is necessary to take appropriate equipment.

CATARACTS OF SHOVEL KALA

To 67 km to the east of the city of Lima by the Main highway (1 hour 20 minutes in car approximately) until the locality of San Jero'nimo de Surco, from this point it is walked towards the waterfalls.

They are located in the heights of the town of San Jero'nimo de Surco, to almost 3000 meters of altitude. It is acceded to them after a long walk of 3 to 4 hours through pack animal roads and footpaths, after the long walk is possible to plunge itself in pozas. The traveller can be stopped in the small village of Huaquicha to converse with the villagers and to enjoy his hospitality. You exist incaicos archaeological rest pre in the environs. ZARATE FORESTS

To the height of km 56 of the main highway is the town of San Bartholomew, of where it leaves the route of 7 hours to foot for the Forests of Zárate (3100 msnm)

The way towards this forest is narrow and zigzagueante. They cross a set of colorful towns of the mountain range until arriving at this dense forest. In this zone species of native trees grow and abound the cactus like San Pedro. This last one is used by the healers to elaborate hallucinogenic concoctions by the settlers. Its visit in the months of April to June is recommended. Caves of Three Windows (3710 msnm approximately) To 80 km to the east of the city of Lima, to arrive 50 km are taken a way affirmed in the last, until the town of Escomarca, from where the villagers can guide the visitor (20 minutes on foot).

The students suppose that 10.000 years ago the caves were occupied by men with ability to work the stone because have been líticos points of the spear and other devices that at the moment are exhibited in the Museum of Anthropology, Archaeology and History of Free Town (Lima). They are considered like the best ones conserved of the paleolítica era in South America.

HUACAPUNE

In km 69 of the Main highway, a dirt road leads the town of Ayas. From there are two forms there to arrive at Huacapune (3,800 msnm). First it requires a greater effort, because it implies the steep ascent to the Tompongo hill, in whose summit are the archaeological rest. The other longer and is calmed, since the way stretches until the bottom of the gorge and passes through the petroglifos of rock Snake (a reptile carved in farallón is observed). In both cases it is necessary to walk 5 hours.

In Huacapune, more than the outer structures, it surprises the great amount of underground enclosures, with rooms of small dimensions. The Vista is excellent, and all the broken Yanajune is descried, and, to the other side of the valley of the Rímac, to the hill of Huacre (4,470 msnm).
