SHIELD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF LIMA

Lima was founded on 1535 and just a short time it became the most important city of America. Today it has more than 8 million inhabitants and welcomes in immigrants of all parts of the world, which has turned it a racially mixed city par excellence. In the historical center, declared Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity by UNESCO, splendid samples of colonial architecture like the Cathedral, the Convent of Santo Domingo and the Convent of San Francisco can be seen, as well as beautiful balconies carved in wood.

Lima is also an inexhaustible source of culture, shows of this is the existence of a great amount and variety of museums like for example the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History and the Archaeological Museum Rafael Larco Herrera whom treasures lodge Incas and preíncas of incalculable value.

Nailed in the middle of the city they appear imposing archaeological monuments like the Huaca Huallamarca or the Huaca Pucllana; and to the outskirts of Lima and in front of the sea, is Pachacámac, the more important sanctuary preínca of the coast, constructed in great century III d.C. Another one of the attractiveness of the city are its beaches, where it is possible to be practiced aquatic sports, to be enjoyed the sun, or simply, to observe the beauty of the Pacific Ocean.
