ANCASH DEPARTMENT


The department of Ancash includes from a coastal strip little rough to the most highest snow-covered of Peru.

In "Callejon de Huaylas", stunning valley located between two chains of mountains, the White Mountain range and the Black Mountain range, extends colorful and calm cities like Recuay, Carhuaz, Yungay and Caraz, whereas the active city of Huaraz, capital of Ancash, is the urban and commercial center of the zone.

In this department, the Chavín Culture was based between 200 years 1,200 and b.C, left as a legacy the impressive Archaeological Complex of Chavin de Huantar, declared Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity by UNESCO in 1985.

Throughout all the zone it can be observed most spectacular snow-covered, among them the Huascarán (6768 over the Sea Level), the peak upper of Peru. Besides to count with thermal spring hot water and spectacular lagoons like Monterrey y Llanganuco, the zone is ideal to practice adventure sports like rafting, climbing, hiking, trekking and bicycle of mountain.

The Nacional Park of Huascarán, declared Natural Patrimony of the Humanity by UNESCO, protects in its beautiful scenes wild species like the "cóndor", the "vicuña, the deer, "puma", the andean fox and "vizcacha".
