DISTRICT OF FURROW SANTIAGO - DISTRITO DE SANTIAGO DE SURCO
The Peruvian district of Santiago de Surco was founded the 24 of January of 1930, according to law N° 6644, being then president of the republic Don Augusto B. Leguía. He is one of the 43 districts of the Province of Lima and second greatest one. It limits the north with the district of Ties and the district of the Molina, to the east with the district of San Juan de Miraflores, district of Villa Maria of the Triumph to the south with the district of Chorrillos and to the west with the districts of San Borja, Surquillo, Miraflores and Barranco.
Santiago de Surco, or Furrow, as commonly it is known him, has gained 4 times the title of "District Garden". His first mayor was Don Julio Mendieta and Copello and his present mayor is Don Carlos Dargent Chamot.
It is a district, that by its great territorial extension is very socioeconomically heterogenous, where exist differentiated zones clearly, lodging population of all the levels, we can find for example in the zone of "Old Furrow" (Venegas and the environs of the Cemetery of Furrow) levels "C" and "D", in the zone of "San Roque" level "B" and in the zone of "Casuarinas" at level "A".
El distrito peruano de Santiago de Surco fue fundado el 24 de enero de 1930, según ley N° 6644, siendo entonces presidente de la república don Augusto B. Leguía. Es uno de los 43 distritos de la Provincia de Lima y el segundo más grande. Limita al norte con el distrito de Ate y el distrito de La Molina, al este con el distrito de San Juan de Miraflores, distrito de Villa María del Triunfo al sur con el distrito de Chorrillos y al oeste con los distritos de San Borja, Surquillo, Miraflores y Barranco.
Santiago de Surco, o Surco, como comúnmente se le conoce, ha ganado 4 veces el título de "Distrito Jardín". Su primer alcalde fue don Julio Mendieta y Copello y su actual alcalde es don Carlos Dargent Chamot.
Es un distrito, que por su gran extensión territorial es socioeconómicamente heterogéneo, donde existen zonas claramente diferenciadas, albergando población de todos los niveles, podemos encontrar por ejemplo en la zona de "Surco Viejo" (Venegas y alrededores del Cementerio de Surco) los niveles "C" y "D", en la zona de "San Roque" el nivel "B" y en la zona de "Casuarinas" al nivel "A".
