RANRAHIRCA


Ranrahirca is a city that change its location due to the constant natural disasters that whipped it.

Ranrahirca this to minutes of Mancos, is a small city of about five hundred inhabitants, which is avalanche prote'ge'e of the Huascarán and the cone of deyección of this snowing by a series of high hills.

The city is modern, counts on a beautiful seat to borders of the highway and on buildings of pleasant aspect. Its history is unica, because as of 1965, after the destruction of the previous and old city by an avalanche of the Huascarán, it was begun to construct from his planes and projects until it was concluded completely and list to be lived. Lamentably, they spent several years so that the survivors of the previous destroyed city and settler of other latitudes inhabited it.

Ranrahirca has a Museum of Natural History, that the National Institute of Culture of Ancash, works to turn it the center of this specialty of the region.

The Area restricted for Constructions

To little distance of the new town of Ranrahirca, the valley of this same name can be appreciated, where; until 1962, the previous city was based. This valley is the cone of natural deyección of the snow-covered Huascarán.

By this valley it lowered in two occasions an extraordinary amount of snow, rocks and mud that were come off a cornice of the North tip, first in 1962 and second in 1970; with the earthquake of May of that year, and they completely devastated the valley from an end to another one. Today, it marks the beginning of the restricted area for constructions, and one is populated with forests of eucalyptuses totally.

THE FIRST DISASTER

One took place in the morning to 6,30 of the 10 of January of 1962, as a result of a snow avalanche and originating rocks of a cornice of the North tip of the Huascarán, that was come off by on snow accumulation in the summit the snowed one, it destroyed this beautiful valley and town, causing the death of than 4 thousand people, according to calculations more considered. The avalanche that dragged between 5 to 6 million cubic meters of materials, destroyed in addition to Ranrahirca to 9 towns, among them, Small Yanama, Shacsha, part of Huarazcucho and Caya.

THE SECOND AVALANCHE ON RANRAHIRCA

One took place as a result of the shock of the mountain range, by the earthquake of the 31 of May of 1970, that in this zone did not cause greater number of victims, because the zone already was forbidden for all type of constructions.
